About Anti Atlas Mountains
The Anti Atlas Mountains are a little off the beaten track, although they have become popular with climbers in recent years. You can visit the area on a day trip out of Taroudant, Agadir or Tiznit / Massa but we recommend a more leisurely visit and possibly staying overnight at one of the hotels we have chosen in the mountains. There is good walking, top quality climbing and simple peace and quiet for all.
Tafraoute & Kerdous
Tafraoute is a perfectly positioned village retreat situated in the dramatic Anti Atlas Mountains and surrounded by almond blossom in spring, just two hours drive (130kms) south of Agadir and Taroudant. This mountainous region is known for its pink granite rocks surrounding small valleys of date palms, argan trees and almond trees. Tafraoute enjoys a unique geographical position, close to the villages of the region; this advantage allows visitors to make trips or walks toward a different group of villages each day.
For example, Aguerd Oudad, known for its high and sloped rock, the Napoleon Hat, it is among many curiosities whose Aoumerkt Rocks were painted by the Artist Verame Belge in 1984. Also, the Ameln Valley is a group of villages at the foot of Jebel Lkest - another beautiful spot.
Tata
Tata is an outpost on the far side of the Anti Atlas Mountains. The road climbs up through rocky canyons to 2000m and out here doesn't go much further than Tata so you will be safely 'away from it all'. Rose-coloured walls and arcaded streets are surrounded by beautiful palms made fertile by the water from the mountains.
To reach Tata you can travel via Tiznit and Bou-Izakarn and then along the good N12 which passes Akka en route and ends at Foum Zguid or from Taroudant on the smaller road over the Anti Atlas via Igherm. Tata is a useful stop on any fly-drive holiday of the deep south although it is the journey and the scenery that we recommend, most towns in this part of Morocco are not "tourist" destinations, although souk days are always interesting.
We look forward to being of service.
