About Kranjska Gora
Kranjska Gora – Gateway to the Julian Alps
Kranjska Gora is nestled in the extreme northwest of Slovenia, in a geographically enclosed area between the Karavanke Mountains to the north and the Julian Alps to the south, within the scenic Upper Sava Valley. This charming Alpine town is famed for its stunning mountain scenery, the source of the Sava River, a small lake, and the striking Russian Chapel, built in memory of Russian prisoners of war. History, culture, and natural beauty combine seamlessly here, complemented by the warm hospitality of the local people.
The old village centre, with its traditional Alpine architecture, is picturesque throughout the year, while nearby hamlets add further charm and authenticity. Kranjska Gora serves as an excellent base for exploring Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park, where you can enjoy an impressive array of outdoor activities. In summer, the options are almost endless: hiking along marked trails, cycling through mountain passes, fishing in clear rivers, golf, climbing, or simply soaking in the vistas from high-altitude viewpoints. In winter, the area becomes a snowy playground, offering skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, ice skating, and cross-country trails, making it a true four-season destination.
A journey from Kranjska Gora on a self-drive holiday is equally memorable. Travel southwest over the Vršič Pass, one of the highest mountain roads in Slovenia, and discover the dramatic Soča Valley, Bovec, or continue towards Slovenia’s coast or the Karst region to explore the Postojna Caves and other geological wonders. Along the way, expect breathtaking Alpine panoramas, verdant valleys, and the quiet charm of remote Slovenian villages.
Kranjska Gora perfectly combines active adventure, serene landscapes, and cultural interest, making it an essential stop for those wanting to experience the very best of Slovenia’s mountains.
We look forward to being of service.
