Organised tourism in Bled dates back to 1855, when Swiss pioneer Arnold Rikli recognised the therapeutic benefits of the local climate. Later, improved rail connections—including a main station on the Munich–Trieste line—opened Bled to a wider international audience. Today, the town has approximately 7,000 residents, most working in tourism, hospitality, or wellness services.
