About Almyrida
Almyrida lies around 20km from Chania at the entrance to the Souda Gulf, with a view towards the Lefka Ori (White Mountains). Almyrida offers two sandy beaches with safe swimming and there's a good choice of seafood restaurants and tavernas on the seafront.
The most important archaeological site in Almyrida is what remains of a three-aisled basilica from the early Christian era (6th century AD), with restored mosaic floors. On Finikias hill, right above the Basilica site, are the ruins of a Greek-Roman city. Greek-Roman ruins are also found on the islet of Karga, just off Almyrida.
