About Budva
Budva – Montenegro’s Historic Coastal Gem
Nestled midway along Montenegro’s short but stunning coastline, Budva combines history, culture, and lively seaside charm. The town’s 21 km of coastline includes 17 beaches, making it one of the most beautiful stretches of shore in the Mediterranean. Nearby, the iconic fortified village of Sveti Stefan juts into the Adriatic—a photographer’s dream, though today accessible only to Aman resort guests.
Budva’s Old Town, perched on a small peninsula, is a medieval labyrinth of narrow streets, small squares, and historic fortifications, including town gates, defensive walls, and towers. Highlights include the 7th-century Church of St. Ivan, adorned with paintings and icons by Venetian masters from the 15th–17th centuries, whose library houses rare church books. Other notable churches are St. Marija in Punta (Benedictine, 840), St. Sava (14th century, Nemanjić dynasty), and the Church of the Holy Trinity (1804), whose tower hosts the local ethnographic collection and overlooks the grave of writer Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša. Monasteries at Stanjevici, Podostrog, Rezevici, and Gradiste further enrich Budva’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Budva offers more than history. It is a vibrant destination for those who enjoy entertainment, sandy beaches, and excellent dining. Cafés, galleries, and restaurants line the old town streets, while adventure sports and cultural performances bring the town to life—especially during summer when Budva transforms into a stage for concerts, theatre, and festivals. Walking along the ancient walls, visitors can trace the footsteps of Illyrians, Romans, and Greeks, soaking in centuries of history against a backdrop of sparkling Adriatic waters.
We look forward to being of service.
