About Kolasin & Biogradsko National Park
Biogradsko Gora National Park & Kolašin – Montenegro’s Mountain Retreat
Located in central Montenegro, Kolašin is a charming mountain town founded in the 17th century. Perched at 960m above sea level and framed by the Tara and Morača rivers, it is renowned for its “air spa” climate, making it an ideal destination for both summer and winter holidays. Just a short 10-minute drive north lies Biogradska Gora National Park, one of Europe’s three remaining virgin forests, home to pristine natural landscapes and the serene Biogradsko Lake at 1,094m.
Biogradska Gora National Park boasts extraordinary biodiversity. The park is home to 26 plant communities with around 2,000 species and subspecies, over 200 bird species—including the majestic imperial eagle—and mammals such as deer, wolves, wild boar, foxes, and rabbits. In addition, more than 350 insect species thrive here. Biogradsko Lake, the park’s centerpiece, is encircled by walking paths, century-old trees, and picturesque meadows, offering a peaceful retreat and opportunities for picnicking, photography, and gentle hiking. Facilities include parking, a restaurant, illuminated walking paths, and camping areas, making it accessible for all visitors.
The Kolašin region is also a popular winter destination. Mount Bjelasica hosts one of Montenegro’s most modern ski resorts, Ski Kolašin 1450, just 8 km from town. The resort offers a six-seat ski lift and 25 km of slopes, catering to beginners and experienced skiers alike, with runs reaching heights of 2,000m.
Nearby, the Morača Monastery stands as a testament to Montenegro’s medieval heritage. Its well-preserved frescoes and historic architecture provide insight into the region’s rich cultural past, complementing the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
Whether you visit for adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, Kolašin and Biogradska Gora National Park offer a perfect mountain retreat in Montenegro, blending pristine nature, outdoor activities, and historical intrigue.
We look forward to being of service.
