About Romania

Romania is one of Europe’s best-kept secrets, tucked away in a remote corner that few travellers explore. For many, the country is synonymous with the legend of Dracula, yet there is so much more to discover beyond the myth.

Much of Romania remains largely untouched, offering vast countryside and traditional ways of life that have long vanished elsewhere in Europe. Centuries-old folklore and customs still thrive in picturesque villages, creating a living tapestry of cultural heritage.

Our small group guided tours, fly-drives, and tailor-made holidays allow travellers to experience Romania at its most authentic. You will not only see the iconic sights but also spend quality time in villages where local culture is strongest, creating enduring memories of this enchanting country.

Self-Drive Holidays in Romania

Romania’s self-drive itineraries often lead through the spectacular Carpathian Mountains, home to bears, wolves, and dense forests, as well as the mysterious and history-rich towns of Transylvania. Venture further north to explore the painted monasteries of Bucovina or the hidden valleys of rural Maramureș. In the south-east, the breathtaking Danube Delta offers a rare opportunity to stay in isolated settlements amid its winding waterways, a genuine cultural experience off the beaten track.

Hiking in the Carpathians

Discover Romania’s peaks, mediaeval towns, and the monasteries of Moldova while enjoying authentic cuisine, feudal villages, and folklore along the way. Walking and sightseeing holidays combine adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion in some of Eastern Europe’s most scenic landscapes.

Small Group Tours

“The Beauty of Yesterday & Natural Wonders of Romania” invites you to explore a country of culture, history, spirituality, medieval architecture, and legend. Experience traditional food, meet local communities, and enjoy the untouched countryside where centuries-old customs are still very much alive. Romania promises discovery, adventure, and memories that last a lifetime.

A Quick Geography of Romania

Romania lies in the south-eastern part of Central Europe, sharing borders with Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, Ukraine to the north, the Republic of Moldova to the east, and the Black Sea to the southeast. Its vibrant capital, Bucharest, is often called the "Paris of the East."

The country boasts a strikingly diverse landscape, from the rugged Carpathian Mountains at its heart to gently rolling hills dotted with orchards and vineyards, and fertile plains devoted to agriculture. Forests cover over a quarter of the land, providing habitat for some of Europe’s richest wildlife, including bears, deer, lynx, chamois, and wolves. The mighty Danube River flows through Romania to its delta at the Black Sea, creating one of the largest and most biodiverse wetlands in Europe.
