A Quick Geography of Romania
Romania lies in the south-eastern part of Central Europe, sharing borders with Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, Ukraine to the north, the Republic of Moldova to the east, and the Black Sea to the southeast. Its vibrant capital, Bucharest, is often called the "Paris of the East."
The country boasts a strikingly diverse landscape, from the rugged Carpathian Mountains at its heart to gently rolling hills dotted with orchards and vineyards, and fertile plains devoted to agriculture. Forests cover over a quarter of the land, providing habitat for some of Europe’s richest wildlife, including bears, deer, lynx, chamois, and wolves. The mighty Danube River flows through Romania to its delta at the Black Sea, creating one of the largest and most biodiverse wetlands in Europe.
